Dark City 'special' DVD

Damn I am so excited about this, an extended version of a film I absolutely adored during my school/college years.  There is nothing I can really say, i'm just too choked up.  Marvel at the cover art.

The only question is, will I have to import it, or will it visit the UK?

Teaser Poster: DBZ

I don't know whether I am excited or scared about this film working.  The new 'Speed Racer' film comes out soon, and I think that may be a good gauge as to how this style may actually work (or fall on its face).  So fingers crossed, but here is a lovely poster for you all.

News roundup on 'the Hobbit'

It is now official, one of the most exciting things for fans of fantasy films.  Not only is the hobbit going to be made (along with a sequel between the films), not only will Ian Mcellan return as Gandalf (somehow), not only is Jackson producing, but the director is nonoe other than Guillermo del Toro.  The imagination and detail this man puts into his films should make the hobbit a possibly great film.  Could it surpass the others?  Money and Cultwise, no, but as a better film, it's definately possible.

What ended up being quite a solid series, has thankfully been renewed for a second 13 episode series (4 more than the last).  Cant wait for more robot killer action.

Trailer: The Spirit

Looks to be very much in the same style as Sin City was.  Directed by Frank Miller, could be good, but very brooding I expect.  Fingers crossed that it has something going for it that isn't straight off the back of Sin City in it's directorial style.

Trailer: Tribeca

New film from the director of Blair With.  In a way, it reminds me of 'Nightwatch' (the war based horror film) which I really enjoyed.  Nightwatch was good because the supernatural horror closely resembled the real life horror that has happened.  I do hope this attempts to do something similar, without being too political, about people emotions not opinions.

Fingers crossed

New sci-fi trilogy announced

Do you recognise this face?  Probably not, it is the face of Ronald D. Moore (one of the main creative forces behind Battlestar Galactica).  And he has been given the reigns to a sci-fi trilogy for the big screen.  I don't know about anyone else, but this makes me very excited.  It's rare we get one good sci-fi film, let alone a trilogy.  Let's just hope it doesn't end up being like the Matrix, and awesome film, followed by some polished dog mess.

Fingers crossed, but I feel like I should expect something darker, so not a new firefly film then, maybe another year.

Trailer: Chaos Theory

Another Ryan Reynolds film, I don't know why, but there's something about the guy that makes me want to watch his films.  And this is no acception, I dare say it will be a run of the mill film, trying to be 'Falling Down' but drastically missing the mark (probably with a happy ending where he gets the girl).  But hell, I think i'll give it a chance.

Does anyone know why Mr Reynolds can't catch a break with a truly good film (although I haven't seen 'the nines', I haven't heard much good about it).  I was hoping for him as the Flash, that would have been a match made in heaven, sadly, no luck there either.  Best wishes Ryan, hope this film makes me happy.

X-Files 2 movie title finally appears

Quick post for all you x-files fans out there reading this.  There is now a title for the forthcoming film, it will from this day onwards be called:

"X-Files: I want to Believe"

So, a little lame imho, but it makes sense, and in many ways, it could have been a lot worse, I think I was just expecting something more clever, or less of a hook purely for old x-files fans (who will undoubtedly be hunting for their UFO posters as I write this).  Still looking forward to it all, should be good I think!

Ghost in the Shell 3D

Hmm, whether this is a good or (most probably) a bad thing it's still happening.  Ghost in the Shell is being remade in CGI by dreamworks (with some backing from Mr Spielberg himself).  Now, I loved the films, and to a certain degree, I enjoyed even more the TV series that followed, due to it's intelligent story arc.  Fingers crossed for this one.

Only Half of Vin Diesel's 'Babylon A.D.' Will Make it to Theaters - Cinematical

Well now i'm disappointed, not only has FOX cut the film from 160mins to 90mins (which I can understand, although 120mins would have been enough cutting im sure).  But they have aimed the film at PG13 rating.  This is meant to be a dark film about a killer Virus, what the hell is going on.  Fingers crossed, as, tbh, I liked Vin Diesels Riddick films (all 3), so I like to think that sci-fi is his genre where he excells.  Fingers crossed for Vin.

Promo: The Incredible Hulk

Just watched this little promo for the hulk, and it makes me much more interested in the film than I was when I just watched the trailer the other day.  It does sound, and I hope it is, slightly more than just one bug 'hulk smash'.  Sounds to be mixed with a bit of fugitive and stuff.  Could be interesting.

Trailer: Hellboy II

Awesome awesome awesome.  I love del toro and mignola, so it's no surprise I liked Hellboy (although it did have it's moments which I thought drab).  Now, this looks like del Toro is learning about the action genre more and more, and how to integrate it with his own, superb fantastical style.  The main bad guy reminds me of the wraith from SG-Atlantis or the bad dude in final fantasy VII film, but hey, I can live with that.  And what's with all the comments about 'another eye man' in the film.  Who cares, it looks cool, and i'm sure it works well.

Review: Orfanato, El (2007)

Well, last night I finally got to see 'El Orfanato'.  Which is introduced by Guillermo del Toro (which basically means he likes it, so its more of a recommendation than anything else).  It is definately in the same vain as some of Guillermos work aswell, in such that throughtout the film you have to remind yourself this is a different director.  What stops it being a del toro film, 2 things.  The ending, and the lack of strange, imaginative monsters.  Neither of which are bad things to change mind you, just different, and they do effect the film, but not in a grandeos way.

Now onto the actual film, rather than a comparison.  It was awesome, made me jump several times, and I was creeped out during it aswell.  Although, in comparison to a lot of modern day horror films, the horrors of del toro (and now Bayona) do not leaving you walking from the cinema scared.  You watch the film, it creeps you out and makes you jump, but it closes nicely, and the ending is suited to the style.

It's not just jumps though, don't let my comments confuse you, there are some very creepy moments that go nowhere, which is the way of a good chilling novel or film.  To the point, I was looking forward to this film, but also concerned that my excitement would not be justified.  I was very happy with what I saw, and there were various elements that were left, not completely resolved in my opinion.

For those in the know, there is going to be an american remake, produced by del toro, but not directed by Bayona.  This may be good, but in my opinion, it is unnecessary to americanise this film.  The cinema was full where I watched it, so I am unsure what they are hoping to achieve.

Watchpeanuts: Watchmen as Charles M Schulz drawings - Boing Boing

Awesome image.  I particularly like snoopy as rorschadt, suits him very well.  To be honest, a book replacing the watchmen characters with these (a kiddy friendly version) would be very funny indeed.
